I'm going to weigh in here and say this: having just returned to racing after a 10-12 year hiatus, it is a bit squirrley in the 4/5 field. I'm not sure about how to resolve this (ya I know Mark, upgrade). It's faster now than 20 yrs ago and the fields are bigger. Crashes are going to happen, lord knows I had my wheel swept out @ PIR lost teeth and I think Harry punctured a lung etc, but I listened to my peers that had more experience than me, and mostly kept out of trouble. Guys on the large teams (think Team Oregon) should be mentoring the new guys on training rides. New guys (gals, sorry) listen up and ask questions. That is all and remember 'rubber side down'.
