What is it with OBRA list folks that fling %^#$% and make snide
comments, then misread all sorts of #$&* out of snide replys. I dont
give a flying $%^&* what your email address says or doesnt say about
you. Never said I was accused of anything. Made simple statements in
sometimes vaguely humerous order. Guess you didnt get it. I was
having a good time til your hackles went vertical. WTF. The mention
of a wife and kids was not some holier than though strike at your
email address. It is directly related to why I would be frugal.
Someone's a little bit over sensitive. I hadnt even paid attention to
your email address til you made that comment. Who gives a $%^&. This
is Portland in the 21st century.

You are correct, it is true that its not logical to offer less to a
greedy person. Wasnt the point. My whole point was to vent a bit and
mainly to protect Obra folks from getting jacked while making a few
folks laugh.

Who buys nice track bikes? Often obra folks. I hate to see obra
folks screw other obra folks over. Why, did you buy the bike on ebay?
Is that what this is all about?

You think that I cant let go of a bike? Wow. I have a few more
important things in my life....You make snide comments about LOTR then
get all huffy when I write back. Maybe you need to just NOT hit that
"Reply to all Button" if you cant deal with the outside world a little
better. Hey Spock, did you miss how I made light of the entire
situation and denegrated myself at the end of the original post?
It's called humor.

Good night folks.

First on the point of logic. What is not logical is that you would point out
the sellers greed, then offer to pay him less than what he paid for the bike
in the first place. It's not logical because you have characterized him as
greedy, then asked him to behave in a manner directly at odds with this.
Secondly, I did not accuse you of trying to turn a quick buck. Nor did I
accuse you of not intending to ride whatever bike you purchase. I don't
really know where that came from. Also, banks and the stock market are two
different things, per your 'pillowcase' argument.
Finally, no I am not wealthy, and I have nothing against shopping sales. Nor
do I have anything against people who have wives & daughters, regardless of
what my email address might suggest. Again, I don't know why you are
responding to accusations that I haven't really lodged against you.
Good luck in pursuit of your precious.
The end.

Whats not logical? I have 'X' amount to spend on a track bike. Why
would I offer him more than I have? I'm not trying to buy low, sell
high. I think the stock market is for suckers. My pillowcase is the
safest place for my money.

Further, I intend to ride said track bike whatever bike that ends up
being. I'm not trying to turn a quick buck.

Being Frugal is quite different than Greedy..... I dont know about you
but I have a single income, wife and daughter. We shop sales and look
for discounted prices. If its not on sale, I typically pass on a
purchase until it goes on sale. Are you one of the lucky few that
doesnt look at price tags or the number at the bottom of the receipt?

I have to say, your logic escapes me a little bit. You point out that the
buyer/seller of this bike is some sort of greed monger hoping to turn a
quick profit. You then offer to purchase the bike from them for $164 less
than the price you are claiming they've paid for it.
I understand that you've become emotionally attached to this bike that
you've never seen before, but I think you might need to let this one go. I'm
not sure whether to recommend grief counseling or a course in business
negotiation.

Josh

PS. Have you ever read "The Lord of the Rings"? Might be some good stuff in
there for you.

TRACK BIKE 61cm - $1200 (Downtown)

http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/bik/1855818900.html

Whomever this is outbid me and many others on this track bike yesterday morning. I would guess that most of the bidders like myself were intending to actually ride the bike at Alpenrose (or other veldorome). He or she paid $499 plus $140 in packaging and shipping costs.

The bike is still in Florida, NOT EVEN on a UPS plane/truck yet and they are already advertising it in hopes of $600 profit in less than 24hours.

Gotta love the anonymity of craigslist vs selling it here on OBRA where names and reputations are public. The seller didnt even want to waste their effort typing out a description of their own, just cut and paste from ebay......

While its a great bike and I wish I had the money (hence I lost on ebay), if you are interested in the bike I would do some serious negotiating as there's definately some wiggle room in the price.

IF the buyer is an Obra member, I'll give you $475 for it when it finally gets shipped to town.

Otherwise, If anyone else has a 61-62cm track bike for sale, drop me a post off list. (in the $2-500 range please)

Yes I am fully aware that I am disappointed that I was outbid and consequently venting my frustration in this pathetic attempt to limit their gain? Sure, its sort of poor form. Do I care? Not really. Will I lose sleep? Nope. But I dont want to see the next owner of the bike at Alpenrose knowing that they were jacked for an additional $600.
