OUCH - The Larch Mountain Uphill Time Trial - Wednesday Start List

Elkhorn Classic Stage Race

2010-07-23

Friday July 22nd

A couple of notes: The 3rd Version of the Final start list is now posted. There will be a Version 4 (tomorrow)

Numbers on the Left.

The oldest person registered is 75. Says "I just wonder how many people I'll be passing." OUCH !!!!!

If you preregistered you are ready to go (unless those specifically emailed with issues).

Please be aware of the course direction:

This is an uphill Time Trial. If you end up going "Down the hill" or to Crown Point - you have errored.

Stay on the main road following the solid/dashed yellow line at all times with one exception: at mile 2.1 right onto E. Larch Mtn road, then 14.1 miles up.

Confusion spots. Mile 0.8 on Columbia Gorge Scenic Hwy road curves left but people want to stray right up Grange Hall Rd. THAT IS WRONG, follow the main road to the left.  Mile 6-ish on E. Larch Mtn road curves left but people consider going straight on E. Louden Rd. THAT IS WRONG, follow the main road to the left.

Continue riding until the pave' ends and you cannot ride any higher.
Congratulations. You are a winner!!!

When entering Sherrard point follow to the right-most parking lot, the finish will be on the left of that lot. Smile and wave AND PLEASE THANK OUR OBRA OFFICIALS.

There will be a white line across the road with an OBRA official - that is the finish. You may now stop and sign autographs for the crowds.

A full 2010 commemorative OUCH water bottle and finishing medal to ALL who crest the summit.

FYI: In the NW corner of the parking lot - is a path, follow it 200m for a scenic vista that is the 2nd highest point in the Northern Cascades for a view of some 6 mountains in a 360 degree vista!

Your family, and friends may meet you at the top - Please note the final 200m of the race is in Sherrad Point property and under the control of the USDA Forest Service and its employees and officers. This federal branch of government requires a parking pass to be purchased upon entering this area. Officers patrol the parking area waiting for offenders and you may be ticketed.

Bags will be taken to the top - Drop off time is prior to 9:30am.

thank you pre-registered riders for making registration and the officials jobs and lives easier.

We love you OBRA!!!!

So say we all.

Monday July 19th...

A first listing of the starting ORDER is now available to all who seek wisdom and knowledge. Please note - this is the ORDER SO FAR and NOT THE FINAL TIMES because there will be changes - BUT - we're working with you so:

If you would like to request an early start time for an important reason, we will be happy to honor what we can on a first-come-first-served basis ... for those who ... preregister. In order to help scoring, no rider changes after pre-registration closes so we can have those sheets printed and Red-eye to go... BAM!!!!

OUCH is a very new or first time rider friendly event. We're here to help you. Got a question? Ask away and we'll help you learn the rules of racing.

To help the new folks and remind the old, the starting list now has a "Watch Time" and a "Race Clock" time which should be pretty straight forward. The first rider will start (assuming day of registration folks don't procrastinate) at 9:30am by Mickey and Minny, at which point we light up the Race Clock from 00:00:00. A rider with a start time of 00:10:00 leaves the gate when the racing clock has run for 10 minutes. That is 9:40 by Mickey.

Prior Updates

The 2010 OUCH: Larch Mtn Uphill Time Trial is pretty much like the Rhinestone Cowboy, getting cards cards and letters from people we don't even know, but, who are ready to go.

The question is: Are you?

New updates: In answer to the requests (sorry folks we really meant to) there are now a men's and women's Masters 60+ field. Also since we traditionally get a lot of folks entering not just a race, but their very first race - we have a split out the scoring for Men's Cat 5 for their very own. OUCH is a great place for new riders to come out and try racing in a challenging but also friendly venue.

Still got questions? Give us a call:  racing@Consystency.Net

Sign up, save the need to check in, and get a categorized starting time. Day of is open but filled in first-come-first-served order.

Best wishes and safe riding!

Prior Updates:

Sunday July 25th, 2010 - Corbett, Oregon for another year of joyous, rhapsodous (oh that's a word), splendid and joyful bliss - can't miss!  Clock fires up at 9:30:00am. Don't crowd the starting house.

For those not attending the world class Cascade Cycling Classic presented by Chad Sperry and team, here is your perfect option. Reportedly the 29th-odd year having started in 1972 with various iterations, Larch Mtn remains THE greatest benchmark test for seasoned veterans as well as a rider-friendly venue for new and first time riders. This is the PREMIERE test in preparing for your assault the medal podium at the OBRA hillclimb Championships.

Once again - finishing medals and a water bottle to every racer who can find the top because "Hey! We're all winners here." Ribbons for  those who want them 1st - 3rd in each category for fields 5 deep. This is a great warm up for the OBRA hillclimb champs.

In keeping with the help OBRA theme - we are using the OBRA online registration program (Kudos to Scott Willson for ALL his work) so if you are an OBRA member you likely already have an account making on-line sign-up easy. To further help that - On-line or mail-in registration is the same and the promoter covers the cost of CC processing (OUCH indeed - yes that is a great pun).

Pre-register for the 9:30am start and there is no need to check in, or stand in line. Just show up in time to warm up and you are ready to roll. Day-of registration is opened from 8  - 9, but everyone regardless of category will start in a first-come-first-serve order.

So make your plans and come on out and celebrate with your OBRA family!

Best wishes and safe riding!
