The Medford Mayors Cup.
I can attest to having had a great time in sunny Medford. As afterthought,
I almost wanted to go dance with the Native American to the fine music right
there in the adjacent tree'd park!
The whole show seemed to go off very well, although Mikkel's SPECTACULAR
finish has to be seen to be believed! I understand there's a chance the
finishline video cam shots might be put on OBRA WWW site. Sorry you guys
went down, and I wouldn't wish that crash on anyone, but I just couldn't
believe how cool Mikkel looks sliding across the line! It is SO CLASSIC!
(I hope you guys heal quickly!)
Having prize$ go as deep as the Medford Mayor's Cup makes the racing
exciting for the whole field, right down to the finish, in my
experience...racers CARE about each and every place, as it MATTER$!
The only thing that would make it better is to have more racers make the
trip down to Medford
For any that missed Medford...try, try TRY to make it next year! It's as
good as it gets.
Thanks Glen, Ed, and company, I wish your race a long future!
David

Subject: [OBRA Chat] Racing in Medford
Congrats to Ed, Glen and all the volunteers, officials, medics, etc. that
made Saturday's Rogue Valley Mayor's Cup a fantastic day of racing! The
course was fun and safe, the prize/prime list was unbelievably generous and
they did a great job of involving the local community by going the extra
mile and coordinating a fair, skate park and live music. The Pro/1/2 race
attracted one of the best fields we've had in Oregon with quite a few pros,
including top dog Chris Horner, who were gearing up for Cascade and gave our
local guys the opportunity to test themselves against the best.
The only thing that would make it better is to have more racers make the
trip down to Medford. I think we as a community need to support racing
across the state, not just in a two-hour radius of Portland. We've seen the
Pear Blossom Omnium go the way of the dodo and I'd hate to see this
fledgling race succumb as well. I'd be interested in hearing opinions on
what it would take to entice more racers to make the trip down I-5.
Ciao,
Chris Bright
