This is so wonderful. These kids are going to have a blast thanks to the ongoing hard work of so many.
Thanks to all involved in making this door open for these racers.

Subject: [OBRA Chat] High School CX Updates

A couple of quick updates. Some info repeated. More details will be coming.

1. Folks have asked about age limits and the HS series. All High School kids are eligible for the HS series. Even if their OBRA racing age is 19 (ie not a Junior by OBRA rules - Remember your CX racing age is your age at the end of the calendar year 2011 for the 2010 year). If you are over 18 racing age you can race the HS series but you are NOT eligible for the Junior Cyclocross Series. This keeps it fair for the Juniors, but also makes for some exciting and competitive HS racing!

2. Regional Teams: Folks are asking "what are the regional teams"? Well they are options if there are kids who want to be on a team, but don't have the minimum 3 kids to make a School team. By all means if you have 3 or more from your High School then you ARE that High School team. For example, I have enough kids to make a Corvallis High team. I have a couple of kids in communities just outside Corvallis that want to be on a team (Lebanon, Albany). If they can't make an Albany, or Lebanon team I will let them join the Corvallis team. The other regions will do the same. No kids left behind! Team naming is a bit tricky. Again, for example, I might call my team Corvallis United, instead of Corvallis High School. It will depend on the distribution of kids. Use your best judgment. The key is we want to be inviting and inclusive. Next year, if this thing works out, we might be a little more formal about aligning with High Schools, High School mascots, High School Bragging rights, etc.

3. Teams and Scoring. I have some more work to do here but quickly to frame it up: 3 people or more required to make a team. The teams will be scored as if all are Coed. The best top three placings will be recorded from each team. It is possible to have two fist places if you have a winning Boy, and winning Girl on your team. I have not set the points schedule yet.

4. Anyone can be a coach or form a team. Don't depend on the Region reps. Get involved and make a team. Just let me or Kenji know you have a team.

5. Jersey's. Remember that if you want team Jersey's by September 15th you need to turn in Art Work, Quantity, and Money by August 6th to Rich Desmond at Castelli. Be sure to mention that your Jersey request is part of the Oregon High School Cyclocross Series to get the preferential support of $ 40/jersey, no minimum Qty requirements (ie 3 or more custom artwork jerseys = pretty sweet deal). Here is Rich Desmond's contact info:
