I agree! Great course. I hope more people show up for this one next year because I'd like it to stay on the schedule.Big Thanks to David and crew!

Subject: [OBRA Chat] Camas Criterium: report from the Master's field this past Saturday

Camas
Criterium Race from Ivan’s perspective;

The
Camas Criterium course was challenging, but if you like to race on a technical course,
this one was a blast!

I
got in a couple of pre-race laps for a sample of the climb (steeper than Mt
tabor, but only one block long) and

the
sweeping downhill turns (wide and open). The Master’s event started out fairly
fast, with Todd Fawcett

ramping
it up through the first right turn and up the hill. The climb was a two-fer: big-ring
up the first steep

section,
then attack the false flat to make sure there was some more suffering going-on.
The downhill was

nearly
flat-out no brakes for the right-then-left, followed by some slight slowing before
making the next left.

There
was even room to pass on the downhill (as Mitch Lee proved to me!). The 2nd
to last right turn had

some
minor roughage in the road, plus one blue reflector, but swinging wide before
and after allowed for

speed
to be maintained and a clean line to be taken. The final right turn, although in
the shadows, was still

smooth
and fast, with about one block to the finish line! We (the Masters) raced for
35 minutes, enjoying every

minute
of the event, I am sure! One unfortunate mishap came about when Mark Steger, sprinter
extraordinaire,

started
the final lap in a two man chase (while Mitch Lee was up the road by 8 seconds),
then with only 2 right

turns
to go, slid-out, breaking his collar-bone. He may have hit the little crater on
the inside right or the blue

reflector
in the middle … oops!

Great venue and course, making this
criterium not just a sprinter’s paradise but a course that rewarded the

climber/sprinter/descender!
