OBRA Crit Champs -- Volunteers Needed

The 2010 OBRA Criterium Championships will be held in Albany on Sunday, August 22. This is the third year Albany has hosted the event, and attendance has grown each year due to a unique course that has a mixture of left and right hand corners, and fast straightaways. Almost 300 racers competed in last year's event and treated spectators to some very fast and technical crit racing.

Volunteers are greatly needed to help with pre-race set-up, course marshalling, and post-race clean-up. We need a total of 24 people for these duties, as detailed below. Volunteers will be compensated for generously offering their time by receiving a discounted race entry fee of $10 and a free lunch or similar sustenance.

Pre-race set up -- 6 people to place hay bales and traffic signs, string caution tape around the course, set up canopies for course marshals, and clean the corners (hopefully, with gas powered leaf blowers this year). This volunteer shift will likely require your presence between 7:00am and 10:00am. At least four of the people working this shift need to be able to lift ~50lbs+ hay bales.

Course Marshals -- 12 people to staff the six corners of the course and alert officials to crashes and other race hazards. Six people are needed for the morning shift (9:30am~2:00pm), and six people are needed for the afternoon shift (1:45pm~6:00pm).

Post-race clean up -- 6 people to pick up the hay bales and traffic signs, sweep up hay debris, remove course tape, and generally return the course to conditions better than how we found it. This shift will likely last from about 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

If you have a few extra hours available on August 22 and would like to spend them helping us put on a fabulous race, please contact me with your shift preference by August 18th. Thanks for your consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you soon!!

Best,
