I don't know what the current range of fees is for comprehensive orthodontic
treatment, but I do know there is a significant range in complexity of
malocclusions and the consistency of orthodontic outcomes.
Having treatment performed by an orthodontist that is well trained, skilled
and dedicated to optimizing results is a significant value. It is a complex
specialty that involves more than just the esthetics of the front teeth. It
influences the mechanics of the facial musculature, the tempromandibular
joints, the periodontal health, and the potential for teeth to develop
cracks and fractures later in life.
There can be self esteem issues that come into play also. I just evaluated a
man in his fifties last month who had orthodontic and esthetic issues with
his teeth as a teenager. He didn't have corrective treatment until he was in
his thirties. It is a huge psychological suitcase for him. I didn't know
about this past until I told him that one of his front teeth could not be
saved. He is a tall, strong man and he had a major breakdown over this news.
I would suggest having the Orthodontist explain what is involved with your
son's treatment and have them show you photographs of their results from
other patients. Orthodontists also usually spread the payment for treatment
over the length of treatment. You can talk to the office staff about these
options.
Orthodontists, that are dedicated, earn every penny and provide a lifelong
value.
I hope this helps.
