Why 2K Race?

Hate to throw a wet blanket on this fine idea. But the new day/century

will be starting at the International dateline rather than the prime

meridian so I suspect it would be 12 hours earlier at 4am PT?

Enjoy!

(BTW "Why 2K?!?!" is a 2 K running race, five laps CLOCKWISE, starting at

23:58 UTC (That's 3:58 p.m., local time). We're going to run out of the

old and right on into the new millennium.... and even get to 'have our cake

and heat it too', since the 0000 UTC 'witching hour' corresponds to 4:00

p.m. PST in Medford. If you've got any friends in the Rogue Valley who

might not be on the Southern Oregon Sizzlers mailing list, you might pass

my email address along. The T-shirt order has been placed but, for a $3.00

day-of-race entry, a runner gets a finishing place ribbon with his/her

start and finish times ---to the nearest year--- printed right on the

ribbon:

         Start: 31-DEC-1999

         Finish: 1-JAN-2000

AND.....

entrants get a chance at a drawing for a super-you-beauty

         "Y2K Sportswatch"

to help in their training, etc.

The 'watches' ARE "Y2K compliant" and come "Batteries not included", are

"Water resistant to 50 m", are easily read in low light levels, etc.

(I make them up using a 3-minute 'hour-glass' type of egg-timer, with a

watch band and "1999" printing on one end with "2000" printing on the other

end. 'Sent my father one for a XMAS present and I wore one to the fire

department training night, last night, and folks are impressed!!! Should

be well worth an entry to get in the drawing!!!)
