Mt Bike Oregon (MBO) takes place each year in Oakridge, Oregon. NPR did a story on Saturday talking about the community's reaction to economic changes there: Less Logging. More Mountain Biking. It is an uneasy trade-off. To learn more: http://www.npr.org/template/stor/story.php?storyId=129186583

Colleen McClenahan (Sorella Forte), who will be doing MBO this weekend, heard that story and thought there must be something we cyclists can do to help. She then had the great idea of simply donating to the Oakridge Food Box during MBO. Brilliant!

A FOOD DRIVE IS BORN

Cyclists (not just mountain bikers!) in Portland, please drop food items off at River City Bicycles before THIS WEDNESDAY at 7 p.m. and Colleen will personally deliver the items to the Oakridge Food Box this weekend.

If you are attending MBO but can't drop food items off at River City before Wednesday, please bring your donation to MBO where Colleen will arrange a collection box on site.

What to donate to the Oakridge Food Box:
• canned meats (i.e., tuna, chicken, salmon)
• canned and boxed meals (i.e., soup, chili, stew, macaroni and cheese)
• peanut butter
• canned or dried beans and peas (i.e., black, pinto, lentils)
• pasta, rice, cereal
• canned fruits and vegetables
• 100 percent fruit juice (canned, plastic or boxed)
• cooking oil

To ensure food safety, they cannot use:
• rusty or unlabeled cans
• perishable items
• homemade items
• noncommercial canned or packaged items
• alcoholic beverages, mixes or soda
• open or used items

PLEASE NOTE: If you donate glass products, please box or bag them separately and label the box or bag "GLASS" on all sides.

Alternatively, if you want to make a tax-deductable donation (any $ amount is appreciated), write a check to UWCDC (in memo line put Oakridge Food Box/Sorella Forte) and send to:
