Hi OBRA racers,

For those of you who didn't receive the email I sent out yesterday, a quick heads-up that the Kruger's Kermesse Farm Crit is back and will take place at Kruger's Farm (on Sauvie Island), on Sunday August 29, which is less than 2 weeks from now!

More info: http://www.portlandracing.com/kermesse

With the help of our presenting sponsor Bike N Hike, we bring back this popular race, which features a very unique race format in an equally unique setting. Last Saturday I was at the farm to finalize the new-and-improved course, which will include a great mix of fast, hard-packed farm roads, some gravel, some grass, and a few dusty sections with lose sand. Everything will be 100% rideable and, unlike cyclocross, there won't be any barriers or obstacles where you have to dismount. In a nutshell: the course will be ton of fun, for novice racers and seasoned pros alike (and everyone in between).

Some other important updates I like to pass on:

1) Bib Numbers:
We will use special bib numbers, which you will receive at registration. So please leave your road bib #s at home. Also, make sure to budget enough time before your race to get through registration and pick up your bib number. Like in cross, your bib number will go on the left side.

2) Kiddie races, live music, gourmet food, beer garden
Like in years past, we will have a host of off-course activities that make this event very spectator and family friendly. As usual, we'll organize a FREE, fun kiddie race for the little ones. Kruger's Farm Market and their various concession stands will be catering hot food and serving beer and other beverages. And we'll have a real cool, local High School rock band (Sitting Sideways) signed up to play live music from 1 to 3pm.

3) Sponsors:
Bike N Hike, Hopworks Urban Brewing, Hammer Nutrition, Chris King, and Nossa Familia Coffee have all stepped up to support this event with great raffle prizes and goodies! Thank you sponsors!

4) Volunteers Wanted!
We still need volunteers to help with registration, lap counting, course marshaling, and tear down. If you are interested in volunteering - and get to race for free - just reply to this e-mail with the dates and times that you are available. Volunteering is a lot of fun and it is a great way to help us making it all happen.

That's it for now. Like in years past, this event will be the perfect segway into cyclocross season and a great race to hammer yourself in shape for cross. Bring your friends. Bring your family. See you at the farm!

~Kris
