There is no rule for any type of race that requires more than one gear.

I've raced SS in my normal category, the B's. I don't think it
matters and no official has ever objected. (Although I'd be
interested in any official ruling.)

I believe that the SS categories (in just about any race) exists so
you may be placed relative to other SS'ers, if that's what you want.
Otherwise, "run what ya brung".

You might also post your question to the Cross Crusade forums on

Have fun!

To be clear... Singlespeed and B's are different fields racing at the same
time. In other words, if you race in the singlespeed category, you are not
racing against the Bs even though you may start at the same time, or a few
minutes apart. As Brian mentioned, you can race your singlespeed bike in the
C field also if you are a C. You can't race outside your category though. So
if you race a geared bike in the Bs, you can't just decide "hey, I'll race
my singlespeed in the Cs even though I'm really a B on a geared bike". The
only reason you can't race singlespeed and Bs, is because they race at the
same time.

Absolutely allowed. You can also double-up and race the same bike in both
races - SS and C.

In cross races, single speed riders typically race with B's. I am not fast
enough to race B. I typically race C's on my geared bike. I now have a SS
bike.

Does anyone think it is bad if I race on the SS with C's? Would race
promoters not allow it?

Thank you

Jason
