Ron and Dorothy Strasser
I raced Twilight Cross last eve in Eugene. I intentionally rode my open pro /ultegra wheels with the new Clement Crusade PDX tires. They are listed as 34c, but my caliper measured them at just under or at 33c. This would make them UCI legal I would assume. I rode them with lower pressure than normal (I used tubes) and I do not know what that is as I do it by FEEL. But I can tell you the Camp Harlow course is similar to Barton in that there are imbedded rocks, some roots, gravel, pavement, loose river rock, grass and the occasional blackberry vine. Oh. Did I mention there was TONS of MUD!!!! I just want those of you under 150lbs to know the tires performed very well. They cleared out the mud well, provided great traction, rolled fast on the flats and did not pinch flat on me despite the fact that I hammered quite a few rocks etc. If tire shopping for clinchers, you might want to look at these tires. I will race them again, even though I love my Bulldogs. By the way. When I replaced the Bulldogs (tubeless) with the Crusades and tubes, I dropped two-tenths of a lb.
Last nights mudfest was a great introduction to Cross for 2010. I bet anyone on a cross bike....anywhere in western oregon had a blast!
see ya out there,
