This sounds really unnecessary. It doesn't appear to be OBRAs job to regulate or otherwise do anything beyond the courtesy of informing racers of federal, state, local, or venue regulations. It sounds more like a waste of time and money.

Speaking as someone who has witnessed drinking throughout my adult life at illegal locations, the problem is never that a waiver was not available.

Maybe the ability to have alcohol at a venue should be part of the flyer
requirements for cross?

I think it should go without saying when it comes to schools though. The law
states that school campuses are drug and alcohol free zones, actually I'm
pretty sure the law is you can't have that stuff within 1000 feet of a
school unless on private property. The law doesn't go away on the weekends,
holidays, or when school isn't in session.

we need some of those large "bike race ahead" signs to read "no alchohol
here".

Most schools have signs posted with regard to this because it is state law. But additional methods of making this information known to racers and fans is a good idea. It seems the OBRA waiver could have an additional statement added (in proper legal terms) that would not only tell racers what the rule is at specific venues, but have a signature stating he/she will abide by rules. This would make it pretty clear to racers...no?

I worked in the schools for 27 years. The no alcohol rules are there for
good reason. The knowledge I have regarding alcohol use on campus always
were based on "individuals", student or adult, who were self-serving in
their behavior. Drinking or having alcohol or tobacco for that matter,
showed they did not care about how that behavior impacted others...only
about themselves and what he/she wanted at the time. If I want a beer and
cigarette, I can wait until later. Young people know when we adults are not
showing good behavior. I know a cigarette just before a race will make me
faster (oh yeah!), but I will just gut it out without one at these selected
venues.

Recommend, in light of some of the behavior last year, elevated sanctions for anyone going agro on a Junior.

The OBRA Cyclocross community is a great place to introduce our kids and new Juniors to the joy of bike racing and Cyclocross. Let's make sure to show the kids the respect and set the right example that they deserve while we are all having a great time.

As we go into the heart of the cross season (hooray!), it's worth a reminder that, unless the name starts with "McMenimims," alcohol is not allowed at any venue ending with the word "school." This would include word pairing such as Hood River Valley High School, Barlow High School, Rainier School, Fox Hollow School, etc.

I'm pretty sure alcohol is also not allowed at Alpenrose. Please note these (reasonable) limitations, and respect the laws and requests of property owners.

Thanks!
