60+ racers...Call Out

Excellent John! One more person for me to finish behind and OK with it
because I knew I did my best!
I started the racing part of my adult bikin' life pretty late, so I expect
all of the folk out there who have been refining their racing knowledge
longer to be going much stronger than I am when they reach 60+. There are
already some 60+ that ride much faster and smarter than ron. I must say I
look up to a great number of younger riders I have become acquainted with as
well. One race and ride at a time.

At our age the mind comes pre-boggled.

I'm waiting for the walker Madisons at Alpenrose. The mind boggles....

Hey all you graysters. Please note the 60+ cross racers are being tracked this year as per announcement a few days back by OBRA (or was that Homeland Security?). Also note that Cross Crusade has a 60+ cat this year (I just looked at the Alpenrose race site last night...pretty neat for us). Jeff McNamee said if he gets a few 60+ racers to sign up he will have a cat. at Heiser as he has in the past.
So what I am suggesting is that any of you in this age cat. that have given up because of all the fast 50+ racers....rethink that decision. Sure we can just go ride our bikes and get a workout. But Cross is going to help us maintain our sense of balance in those tough situations that come up in life. Life is not just a smooth run of brand new pavement. It has off camber sections with rough, back pounding mole and gopher mounds (as well as barriers) to challenge us on a regular basis. If you give up Cross, you will just tip over and break your hip when the next rough section of life surprises you. Your mind/body balance mechanisms will be packed away in some public storage locker out in the physiological suburbs. Down you go. Anyway my desire is for as many 60+ riders to be out there contesting the course and each other as there are Juniors and High School-ers. Those youngsters can laugh with and at us as we can do with them. Our presence will encourage them. At our age, we could have three generations of a family out doing Cross! We can work with OBRA (if needed) to allow walkers in the pit or next to run-ups and barriers. So consider giving it a go again if you have not raced for a time. The key is doing it as long as you can. It is called life. As long as you have something to give.....give it. Sorry if this offended anyone, but being 60+, I see most of my generation NOT continuing to live unless it involves some sort of remote control.
