- Please do not fold it, it is not visible through the camera

- Please do not place it on your back, or along your waistband over the

rear pockets.



- If you do not wear a visible number, we can not verify that you

registered.



- If you are not registered, then you shouldn't be racing.



- If you are not sure about number placement, ask the officials.



One of the options to overcome this is to not score you in the finish if

we

 can't see your number in the video. This would save the officials a

little

 time and we would be able to post results a little quicker. In

the past,

we

 have been spoiled by the fact that Nancy and Candi could probably recite

every OBRA members number from memory. However, now that new officials

are

 being trained the rules pertaining to number placement need to

be adhered

 to.



OBRA rule 10.4 will be enforced starting Wednesday night at Mt. Tabor



10.4 - Unreadable numbers may not be placed.

<P>Number placement seems to be an issue that has troubled racers throughout all of time. Being that racers tend to dwell on magazine pictures of other racers and attempt to emulate those pictures, perhaps the time has come to divulge those of us who are visual learners.</P>

<P>The number placement issue reared it's troubled digits at the Elkhorn Stage Race where the number of numbers was multiplied. So too was the creativity of where all those numbers were to be placed.</P></DIV>

<P>A solution to simplify the number placement equation would be to post a mannequin or even a jersey stuffed with newspaper, hoisted atop a stick, complete with properly placed numbers. Riders can then stare at the demonstration model while in line to register or use the Honey Bucket. </P>

<P>Those still stuck on treating OBRA numbers like origami should gain the perspective of the finish camera. Looking through the camera once a season to remind yourself exactly how clear or contorted a number can be applied, takes less time and less energy than re-pinning your race number before the race or at the starting line. And bring your own safety pins.<BR><BR></P>
