Medical supply center in PDX??

Brady Brady

Reporting back after a visit to Beaverton Pharmacy-they've got all the stuff mentioned in this thread (well, I don't know about Tegaderm, since I ended up going with Duoderm) and then some. It was, as some have mentioned, a little pricey, but well worth it for the one-stop shopping and helpful, seemingly knowledgeable staff.

Yep. Check out woundcareshop.com.

I think the most important/difficult thing to find reasonably priced is Tegaderm. When I worked at Good Sam and could buy with employee discount it made it a lot more reasonable. It's especially helpful on hip and thigh road rash that is otherwise difficult to bandage and often ends up stuck to one's clothes.

Just some advice:
- Don't use Hibiclens on anything but intact skin. It contains alcohol and will sting like mad. More importantly it will damage tissue, delay healing and not decrease infection rate. It is OK it on intact skin and will decrease wound infection if you us it before the skin is broken. Let me know if you can figure out how to do that.
- You only need the scrub brushes for the initial cleaning after you fall. There is no use in scrubbing repeatedly.
- I have found that DuoDerm is only useful for wounds that are real dry. Most abrasions are very moist and will fill the gel quickly requiring frequent dressing changes which negates the value of a semi-permeable dressing.

Hi OBRA,

Does anyone know where I could get the following medical supplies-especially the duoderm (I've read that items 1 and 4 are not normally carried in pharmacies)? Skin is nice, I miss it.

1. Duoderm 4×4 Extra Thin CGF Dressing (ConvaTec/Bristol-Myers Squibb)
2. Tegaderm Hibiclens
3. Surgical scrub brushes
4. White fishnet mesh

NW, or north Beaverton, is preferred... but I am a definitely a beggar, not a chooser!

Thanks,

Brady

I think the most important/difficult thing to find reasonably priced
is Tegaderm. When I worked at Good Sam and could buy with employee

I buy these things on line. It makes a bit more sense for me because I am
buying most of them by the case.

Yeah, I had good luck at Byram (formerly Choice). I wasn't sure if they were still there or not. They were good for big pieces of Tegaderm.

I've gotten small Tegaderm and fishnet at Walgreens. Maybe Tincture of Benzoine too though that might have been my neighborhood (Brooklyn) pharmacy.

In addition to Beaverton Pharmacy (expensive) there used to be a medical
supply company on E Burnside, I think it's called Byram Healthcare. It
used to be located at about 22nd & E. Burnside, but their web site now shows
102nd & E Burnside.

Try the Beaverton Pharmacy -- they have a lot of specific medical supplies beyond what most pharmacies carry.
