Great writer, but not a great journalist

Borges, who probably still does having training wheels on his bike, has

aptly demonstrated that although he can push his skinny pen for 9 hours a

day, he is not a journalist at all, but merely a writer. I wonder that he

is published at all. Is Lance a better athlete than Michael Jordan, Marion

Jones or the Williams sisters? No, Lance is merely the same as they are -

the best his sport has to offer. Borges, whose bicycling expertise likely

peaked when he sat at his window as a youth, watching kids on Schwinn

Stingrays popping wheelies while awaiting the start of his violin lesson,

has written from a position of ignorance. I see the same from my children

when they watch an NFL game - they have no knowledge, no appreciation and no

understanding of football because it is so far outside their experiences -

but I would bet my children would still accept football players as athletes.

I suspect Borges would have trouble descending the French Alps in his BMW,

let alone mustering the skill, courage and - dare I say it ATHLETICISM - to

do it at 60+ mph on a 16 lb bicycle.
