Subject: [DisciplesOfDirt] Meeting date correction! --> Tues. Oct. 19th <--
(NOT 26th!)
To: DisciplesOfDirt@yahoogroups.com
The meeting date is THIS COMING TUESDAY, OCTOBER 19TH.
NOT the 26th as previously stated. Sorry, my bad! --DH
Meeting:
6pm Tuesday, October 19, 2010
Cozmic Pizza, 199 W. 8th Ave, downtown Eugene
Pizza, beer, wine available. No host.
Meeting will be brief -- half hour to 45 min.
The Disciples of Dirt Mountain Bike Club and MTB Eugene are merging. The new
organization will be called the DOD.
DOD will become a chapter of The International Mountain Biking Association
(IMBA). There will be benefits in doing so. Developing relationships with
various land management agencies plus the potential for mountain bike access
to
ongoing local urban trail projects prompt the club merger and IMBA
association
now. The DOD / MTB Eugene / IMBA partnership will give us a stronger local
voice, support for trail access & development, benefit administration,
financial
& tax issues. DOD will gain legitimacy and credibility in the eyes of
cities,
the county and federal land management agencies. DOD will be able to apply
for
various grants for trail projects plus trail building / trail maintenance
equipment.
In order for this to happen, DOD needs to formalize its status and
organizational structure. We'll need a 6-8 member board, committees, formal
membership list, by-laws. We need input from current members to discuss and
identify our priorities as a club. Certainly there may be questions or
concerns
about if or how this new organizational structure might impact the "feel" of
what has long been primarily a riding / social organization (speaking
specifically of DOD here). This is one of the things we'll talk about. Come
to
the meeting, please. Thanks.
