Video editing

I use an awesome software called Cyberlink Powerdirector-
http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector/overview_en_US.html. I
believe it's $70 but well worth it! It has TONS of transitions, titles,
fonts, and can do all sort of cool stuff like straight upload to Youtube or
Facebook. I used to use Windows Movie Maker but it won't accept .mov files
that Gopro uses. I'm not any type of salesman, but Cyberlink is pretty
sweet.

Here is a review of it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycr6XLfAe_o

Thank you for everyone who responded. The suggestions that were made (from a
PC perspective) were:

Windows Movie Maker

Adobe Premiere

A Sony product: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/moviestudiope

On the Mac side, their bundled software will do the job nicely (Final Cut or
iMovie).

One other option that I remember I used to use a few years ago when I toyed
around with the idea of video editing was called Virtual Dub.
http://www.virtualdub.org/. It is freeware and has been around for many
years. It can do batch processing and handle multiple files. It is a very
streamlined utility and although the instructions were not great a few years
ago, it looks like the website has been stepped up a bit. It was written by
a college student and he has kept it alive over the years. (Mike- this might
be something worth looking into for OBRA.)

Lastly, I did stop in Best Buy (but I would recommend going to Fry's for a
better selection) and they had a few titles for under $100. My point is,
that you don't have to break the bank for some software if you don't want
to.

Thank you to everyone who replied. I think for now I will try Movie Maker
and see how that works. If I need something more robust, I will look at
these options.

I tried Quicktime. It doesn't recognize the format that the camera stores
the file in. It uses a .mts format. I tried a file converter to put them
in a different format but not only did that take too long it did not work.

just download the clips to your hard drive and open them in Quicktime
Player.
Quicktime allows for normal forward and reverse playback and frame by
frame scurbbing (via the arrow keys on your keyboard). Its free.

If you want to edit, on the mac side just use iMovie. It is shockingly
easy to get going on. On the PC side I'm not sure which software is the
most elegant. The problem on the PC side is that there are SO many
options. Someone else could probably help suggesting one of the better ones.

For less than $ 100 this Sony SW is really great at video editing. You can load in the video file and scroll frame by frame back and forth if that is what you want to do.

You might check Microsoft Movie Maker (comes with Windows Operating systems). I think you can do the same there.

Please post on list because I am interested too.  I now have two cameras that can do video and no editing software.  I am sure there are several more people on the list that would be interested.

I would also be interested in this. Kenji bought some new small HD video cameras to act as backup for the FinishLynx. So far the only way we have been able to use it is by running the video output to a TV/VCR and using that for review. This negates the benefit of HD and requires hauling around a TV. Hi Everyone,

For those of you who have been using the Go Pro video cameras (or even other
cameras where no software was included), what software have you been using
to edit your videos before posting them up? If you could respond with
software, store you purchased it from and price, that would help me a lot. I
would like to pick something up today since I got the camera yesterday.

Please reply off list and thank you for the tips.

Dave
