US Gran Prix of Cyclocross - 2010 - #1

Even if you do not race, this is a great time to come show the "group"...(USGP Promoters) who are bringing the World Cross Championships to the USA in 2013) that Oregon has super great supportive fans for Cyclocross. Ring them Bells! Cheer for your favorite, or cheer for all the racers. Even if weather is nasty (bundle up), lets give 'em a large supportive crowd. Maybe we can encourage a "local" to pull out a big win.

Subject: [OBRA Chat] US Gran Prix of Cyclocross - 2010 - #1

Next weekend (December 4 and 5), the US Gran Prix of Cyclocross will take over the infield at Portland International Raceway for a final weekend of cyclocross in Portland for 2010. Not only will there be OBRA events in the morning, but the afternoons will let us see who will prevail in winning coveted spots on the US national cyclocross team that go to the champions of the USGP series.

While racers from across the nation come to duke it out at for the USGP there are a slew of Oregon racers to watch kick some mud (including I’ve been told Chris Horner, perhaps brushing up for an appearance at Cross Nationals in Bend a week later). Whether you are rooting for Horner, Butler, Pennington, Preble, the twin towers, W. Ross or the other great Oregon racers, this will be a last weekend of Cross excitement in the Portland metro for 2010. (You can find the current series standings at http://usgpcyclocross.com/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=1J67_4-5BmI%3d&tabid=1151&mid=2901)

Although this race will have a live video-cast on the internet – the last USGP in Fort Collins had a worldwide audience of around 65,000 – I guarantee that watching from your computer screen while you shake your wii is nothing like ringing your cowbell in person.

There is more USGP information and registration links (Bikereg.com online reg closes at Wednesday, December 01, 2010 at 11:45 PM ET) at http://usgpcyclocross.com/RacesResults/StanleyPortlandCup.aspx. Up-to-date information about team tent parking and the number ceremony with number pickup (for both days!) and registration) will be coming here soon.

Finally, the three golden rules of PIR go with out saying, but I will repeat them anyways:

1. The PIR racetrack will NOT be open for bicycles, cars, tricycles, knights on horses, walking or anything else.

2. There is no parking on the grass.

3. Everyone needs to be out of PIR before 5 pm every day.

Cheers!
