Hello OBRA fans,

We had the good fortune to get permission from Jan Heine (publisher of Bicycle Quarterly) and local writer Kelly Dodd to republish an excellent piece she wrote on Frans Pauwels. For those of you who don't know already, Pauwels is a Portlander who raced in Europe in the 1940s and '50s and then came back to town and founded Kissler's bike shop. He was also a coach, bike advocate, and much more. Learn more about him in the article we published this morning (that was originally published in Bicycle Quarterly).
