Yep, this is a self-promotion and a plug for massage therapy! As a massage therapist I found the results listed below to be super positive in that more Americans are choosing massage therapy to relieve their pain.

Here's what the survey states (survey done by CARAVAN® Opinion Research Corporation International):

“54 percent of Americans who had a massage in the past 5 years say they have had a massage to relieve pain”; AND

“86 percent of Americans agree that massage can be beneficial for health and wellness, including pain relief”

Here are some other benefits of massage besides just pain relief:

* Helps to prevent injury
* Assists in reducing recovery time after a hard work out or race by stimulating circulation of blood and lymph flow
* Aids in decreasing the healing time after a soft tissue injury by reducing scar tissue which can inhibit your muscles range of movement
* Helps to lengthen and stretch muscle tissue
* Reduces the pesky stress!

Oh, and to learn a little bit about my massage practice, please check out this fantastic interview I had with Katy Pranian of Sorella Forte: http://www.sorellaforte.com/

The consumer survey was taken by CARAVAN® Opinion Research Corporation International and was posted on the American Massage Therapy Association’s website.
