It's super easy to see a mountain stage, or any stage, of the Tour. You can ride the route up until about 2 hours before the racers come through, and follow about 30 minutes after them. I can't imagine NOT watching the mountain stages. Especially if you get to see a critical moment on the Tourmalet. Bring your american flag undies.
