I agree with Mr Bravard. He is especially despicable.
I don't know what all the fuss is about. Masters don't have any reason to pee on a race course. They have perfectly good diapers to soak up all that pee.

WOW! There are some people on this list that need something to do. First race is the 19th. Get out there and train harder so you don't have so much energy for the keyboard! If that does not work, get a legislator to introduce a bill to change all "stop" signs to "go" signs. If that passes get the legislator to introduce a bill making "urination in public legal". If neither work just figure common sense (which can be rare these days) would suggest you live by the rules of society.
Maybe drop this thread and talk about dealing with the rain spray on your first few races or some such stuff.
If you get old enough and have enough problems with body functions, they can fix you up with a real fancy bag to take care of that public urination and running stop signs is the opposite of a "kid thing". It is a just the result of a "senior moment", the real meaning of "master".
THANK YOU.

I just wanted to make a note on this. As the Chief Ref for Cherry Pie
last year, I was the one dealing with some folks who were very upset
about this issue. One was quite irrate that his young daughter was
witness to this occurring as she sat at her breakfast table eating. The
really sad thing was that the riders had to ride past all the
port-a-potties in order to get to the apartment parking lot. Literally,
they were within 50 feet of the toilets. Completely avoidable!

That said, don't be a chump!

Drink a little less water. You'll still be well hydrated, and your
extremely nervous pre-race bladder will thank you.

Unfortunately, the people that most need this message are not on this
mailing list. So, if you see them, make it know.

Thanks
Seth

MY race has more porta-poties than your race! sounds like an arms race.

Not only do we go to races for glory, upgrade points and pain but also ... to pee.

Peeing in a field out in the middle of nowhere is one thing, sometimes
expected (especially in stage race). Peeing on a building while spectators
are around (or not around)? That is just plain dumb.

You guys so quickly miss the point... but then again that is our society. Pretty soon we will all have to wear full body casts by law to protect ourselves from ourselves. Actually that should be an OBRA rule to prevent injury imminent to bike racing!

Of course, I cannot fault any of you for not "reading" my disgust and sarcasm in email form. That all being said, my QUESTION is unanswered--I have been in a number of events where racing has been halted for peeing with no potty in sight.

Whats the rule??? I have even seen officials stop their cars to wait for these heinous crimes or maybe they were just watching.

It all seems like hypocrisy is all to me, but there I go again with the cynicism...

My solution:

1) Identify whiney-gripeys pre-race
2) Soil kits during race
3) Mail soiled kit to whiney-gripeys after race

Gratifying, if ineffective.

I would say that I have been in more OBRA races than not where individuals and often the whole field stopped for nature breaks. I don't recall any government provided public restrooms being used but that is another great motivation for deficit spending.

Our new staging venue for CP is at Santiam Christian HS. They expressed serious concern for littering and public urination. Last year, faculty members and their children witnessed racers urinating in front yards behind Valley Catering. We almost lost the ability to use Adair for the event. If that happened, the race would go away. There are few other venues in the Valley that will work with a race this large this time of year. Many parks are still closed.

So, this year, we have a plan to encourage folks to be more diligent about this problem. There are 6 portable toilets available for your use, located in the main parking lot as well as near the start staging area.

Anyone caught urinating in public will be immediately ejected from the event. If you are caught by local law enforcement, expect a hefty ticket. I'm working with Adair City Hall to inform the locals about how to handle this behavior, which will basically include calling me or local law enforcement...whichever works for them. I'll be asking for descriptions including kit design, bib, vehicle license plate, bicycle characteristics...you name it.

With technology what it is, all you need to do is snap a pic/flick on your phone and text/e-mail it to me. 541.990.8979 or james-fischer@comcast.net. You don't even have to identify yourself if you don't want. Pictures speak for themselves.

If you do wish to come forward, the BOUNTY for you helping to curtail public urination is a free entry/refund. Catch somebody, show it to me, and you race for free. No questions asked.

Please pick up any trash you see, regardless of who put it there. Let's leave the venue cleaner than we find it!

Thanks, and we'll see you on the 19th!

So you would rather risk a venue for your freedom to pee in public. Wheres
the common sense in that.
