Increase the size of your watts

It sounds like you have both experienced some great results from your training. I am not going to discount that but rather offer a word of caution to those new to cycle training and a word of encouragement to those who may have been at it a long time. Research functional vs. structural adaptions and realize that wattage is only a metric that tells a snap-shot of power output at a given time. Wattage increase is terminal for all athletes in a relatively short period of time however performance increases maybe be realized for a matter of decades. I agree that our community spends far to much on technology driven performance improvements vs. training interventions. However, most "studies" which are currently used to back current coaching methodolgy are defined by a few months or a term or semester project. This does not correlate to a biological clock.

At this point the "proof" is in the pudding so-to-speak as there is a definite lack of credible research in this area. Some facts are available: the type of training that will maximize your wattage for a month, three months, six months, a year, 3 years... are likely quite different and most possibly mutually exclusive from one end of the time line to the other. Wattage is only a number on a screen and should be treated as such.

All I am saying is be careful about what defines your growth as a cyclist and realize that your training plan and interventions may be considerably more complex and time sensitive than some would lead you to believe.

Good luck!

I've been training with Rick since September. I can't say enough good
things about Rick and his methods. He puts an incredible amount of
thought and effort into each training block. Because the classes are
very small, the amount of individualized attention is top notch. He is
very motivating in his teaching style as well. Everyone comes out of
each class pumped and ready for the next one.

Even better, he tests our threshold power at the end of each training
block, and without fail, ALL of us have seen improvements in our power
output.

If you're serious about increasing your power and seeing results this
season, you will find this to be money well spent.
