Pat, the voice I most trust on the issue of training while recovering

is Arnie Baker. Arnie has said that training responsibly while

recovering probably won't hurt you, and your recovery time might even

be improved... HOWEVER... a lot depends on how you've been training,

and on how you train now. IF you're overtrained (oftentimes folks

who get sick during the season or leading up to the season are

borderline overtrained to begin with) So the first thing to do is to

review what you've been doing. Overtraining can be defined as much

by a lack of sufficient rest as by too much work. So amp up the FOB

time, cut down the training time and increase the intensity right up

to a couple of days before the race. Get massage help. In the last

week, ramp up the amount of rest.

Remember that an ITT is as much a mental test as it is a strength and

power test... so enter it clear headed and rested.

had me off the bike since last Sunday. Today I feel like I could

ride, maybe 60 - 90 minutes, but I still feel fairly weak. With all

that said, I would like to hear from some of you that have had

something similar happen. My basic questions are 1) should I wait

to do a ride when I feel 100% or go ahead and ride a little while

only 75% recovered. And 2) Let's say that I'm 100% by Monday. That

leaves me 6 days to fit some riding in while leaving myself rested

for the TT. What would you do the week before the TT after coming

off a 7 day illness?

Thanks

The state time trial is a week from Sunday. It's a very important event for
