Mt. Hood Cycling Classic

Dear NW Racers,

It is time to start preparing for one of the most challenging and exciting races in the country. The Mt. Hood Cycling Classic is back and better than ever. Debuting two brand new courses and the return of a legendary stage that helped to define this event as one of the premier cycling events in the country. That's right Three Summits is back.

New for this year is the change of the format to a 3 day 4 stage event for all amateur categories. Pros will start off on Thursday with the Panorama Point Prologue and the rest will start Friday. This provides maximum racing with minimum disruption to family and work. We are also modifying the Three Summits course to be more user friendly for CAT 4 men and CAT 3-4 women. No longer must you endure a 90 mile death march of Wy'East Road Race. The rest of you will get plenty of suffering for your dollar, so do not worry.

The new format will also return the criterium to Saturday night making it a huge spectator event. A brand new time trial in Trout Lake will be flat fast and very little wind. The new Stage 1 is a great opportunity for the sprinters to showcase their talents and Three Summits will now be the final stage and likely were there winners will be decided. A big party and awards presentation will follow the completion of the race at the beautiful Cooper Spur Mountain Resort. Lodging will fill up fast so be sure and book now to assure you have a bed and a shower. Cooper Spur Mountain Resort and Best Western Hood River Inn are once again huge financial supporters for the event so be sure and help us fill their rooms and establishments. A final warning, we anticipate at least half our categories to fill this year. We are taking a very firm stance on field limits and will not be making exceptions due to the narrow rides and tight corners on the Three Summits Stage.
