Thought i would give obra first oppurtunity before i put it on ebay.
http://www.sheldonbrown.com/harris/rohloff.html its the first one listed:
the *SPEEDHUB 500/14 XC (formerly "CC")*
It is built into a velocity chukker black rim. Ritchey logic spokes
(2.0/1.7/2.0) I built it to handle high loads and be very durable.
Where-as a typical wheel build like this might take 30 minutes, i spend
probably 2 to 3 hours building this, with modified brass nipples and ss
washers,so that for a slight weight penalty, get increased aerodynamics and
rim that won't crack out in 4 or 5 years even under extremely high loads.
.
The shifter was modified to fit on a road bar. Yes this took a bit of work
as well, but it will fit on most road bars up on the tops.
The hub was maybe run 100 miles. I did buy it used, it was built into a
dyad wheel by peter white cycles (which was not up to my standard for this
wheel, thus the reason for my rebuild) The previous owner used it about the
same amount as me. So yes it is not even close to being broke in.
I was thinking of un-building the wheel and selling the hub on ebay. I
would get over $1000. But the wheel build is too nice. It be very nice
for someone doing loaded touring. The wheel was built for a tandem with
load. But to be honest, I can't reccomend a internal hub a for a tandem, at
least not the way we ride a tandem. Now obviously there are many people
that use a rohloff on tandem, it does require a different shifting
technique. This would be the wheel for you if you want to do loaded tandem
touring. But the rim really is not that much heavier than deep-v so just a
very strong commutting or touring or 29er mtb wheel as well. You can
upgrade or switch out parts to make this disk hub also.
I would want $1000. which is great deal. This would include the manual,
the shifter, an oil change kit, cables for a tandem..any other rohloff parts
i happen to have... ( writing all this up makes me want to keep it.. )
