There is, at times, a frightening amount of erudition on this list so I

thought I'd pass this along.

All authors chosen for publication will receive two free copies of the book

and the right to buy as many as they like at 50% discount.

DEADLINE: November 30, 2002.

(But please submit earlier if you can, so

we don't receive all the entries on one day.)

BICYCLE LOVE

Okay, so some of us are a bit too attached to our bicycles. Some may say

this

is "inappropriate" or "unnatural." But here at Breakaway Books we think

excessive bicycle-love is a fine and glorious thing. Bicycles take us

places,

physically and metaphysically, we cannot go without them. They move us;

they

make us dizzy and giddy, exhilarated and exhausted.

We're looking for stories of passion, devotion, or obsession -- and some

good

cycling -- capturing the sublime nature of rider and bike. We seek

inspiring

personal tales showing the many wonders of cycling. Please submit your

lively

essay, comic or serious, on the joys of mountain or road riding, and your

unbridled feelings about your bike. Tell us about the place cycling has in

your life. Try to capture all that is good about it -- the obvious and the

ineffable.

We also considered calling this contest "How Bicycling Changed My Life," or

"Why I Love My Bicycle So Damned Much." Feel free to incorporate these

themes

into your essay as well.

Essays should be 750-2000 words. Give your essay a title other than

"Bicycle

Love," if you can.

Submissions will be judged based on quality of writing, clarity of voice,

and

emotional and narrative power.

E-mail your entry (as a Word attachment, or in the text body of the mail)

to:

Bike-@breakawaybooks.com

Or mail it to:

Please include your name, address, phone number, and e-mail address if you

have one.

Pass along this information to anyone you know who might have an

interesting

story to tell.

Good luck. We look forward to hearing your story.
