Custom Footbeds/Orthotics will help with many foot problems including pain and numbness, but it is always a good idea to get a sense of why the problem is happening in the first place.
The most common cause of foot problems we see here at my clinic are shoes that are too narrow, compressing nerves, arteries, muscles, etc. A good first check that I typically do is to take the insole out of the shoe, place it on the floor, and see if the foot is substantially bigger than the insole. If so, the shoe is probably too narrow and is likely a large part of the problem.
Orthotics are most helpful for arch support and pressure distribution problems, which are also common in cycling. There are a number of ready-made solutions in the $40-70 range, and these may work well in some cases. Many people do better with a custom orthotic, which will more closely match the arch contour and the support required.
Orthotics are commonly covered by insurance, depending on who prescribes them. Your provider, if they are set up to bill insurance, can check your benefits for you.
I prescribe custom orthotics for cyclists, and they can also be used in your everyday shoes as well. They typically also fit in downhill skis, hiking boots etc. I also do a complimentary consultation with anybody that is interested in learning about how we can help, checking insurance benefits, etc.
