I love race promoters, but it seems to me that we're currently necessitating that almost everyone drive cars to stage race starts. Personally, when practical (5-10 miles or so), I prefer to ride to race starts. I know it's not the pro-thing to do, but I'm a biking guy. However, it's difficult to always have to carry a spare set of wheels to be prepared for being designated as a neutral wheel provider when this information is only provided immediately before the race start. If neutral wheel's could be assigned the previous day, posted on-line, I'm sure more people would ride to the race starts, as opposed to everyone driving w/ spare wheels in their cars. We're bike riders, let's stop relying on cars so much at the races...
