Southwest is the same I believe. Some places do rent relatively rad bikes and I would cry if they kilt my road bike. Choices, choices ...

If shipping two ways, consider flying Jet Blue. They charge $50 to include your

Thanks for all the shipping replies. I think I have a pretty good idea of what I should expect. 29'er = bigger box = more $$$ for oversize. I'll look at options ...

I've shipped to Arizona and Massachusetts last week from Salem. AZ was $68 with UPS w/$100 insurance + Tracking and MA was $73 Tracking & $100 Insurance.

For a large frame, I'd plan on close to $100. Bikes ship by dimensional
weight which means the box size is important. Length + 2x width + 2x height
< 108" or it can get a lot more expensive. I've had good luck with Fedex.
USPS or BONVU.com is best for international shipping.

I haven't used them personally, but I'd recommend looking at www.shipbikes.com - they have lower rates even without using their special bike box than any I was quoted by UPS. I chose to rent at my destination because it cost about the same as shipping to AZ and I didn't want to risk bike damage on a CF bike.

Anyone shipped a 29'er or road bike lately? What's the rate these days in a standard bike box? Say, to TX? Or Chicago?
Thanks!
