UO Cycling non profit

Wow. Ok, I'll let you know how little you know about Collegiate Cycling.

First off, we have multiple kits this year because teammates have to use
older ones. Once we crash, none of us buy new kits and just recycle
teammates from years past. We have 2 different designs from Hincapie this
year, one for the skinsuit and one for the top and bottom. Cost was not
extra, we didn't spend on 2 different ones.
Nike warm ups are donated. We don't buy those. All club teams get them for
free. Again, wrong.
New trailer this year was part of the budget. We were promised that we could
save money on it by towing it with a passenger van, and not a truck. We'd
need one less vehicle, saving us almost 300 a week. We were then told that
we needed a truck a week before collegiate started (hence not budgeting for
it), so we had to spend a lot more on travel, which is the real reason we're
lacking funds. Again, you have no idea about collegiate cycling and funds.

We didn't over spend. We've cleaned up basketball courts even after the home
opener for the new Matthew Night Arena. Yes, that was a sellout crowd. We
brought 26 people, were there till 1 am cleaning popcorn and spilt soda by
lazy basketball fans. For 300 dollars. So don't tell me about the hardships
of fundraising. We've done it all.

We've budgeted and done everything right, so I'd suggest checking your
sources before posting an email that you clearly know nothing about.

While I can't comment on this year's team and budget situation, I'd stick up
for collegiate cycling and the broke-ness that often accompanies it.

I raced at UO for four years and managed the team for two years. We had to
pay dues, pay for our own kits, pay for food, and even pay our own race
entry fees. We got a couple thousand dollars a year from the club sports
program to get us to races in state motor-pool vans, and that was it as far
as school financial support went. There are much better funded collegiate
teams out there, including Whitman, WWU, etc.

We didn't have a trailer, but if they've acquired one, great! That was a
sorely needed piece of equipment because taking a second van for bikes and
cargo destroyed our budget with gas bills.

Fundraising was a regular thing. Mac Court cleanups after the basketball
games, ride-a-thons outside of the bookstore, etc. It's nothing like being a
varsity sports team. Asking for donations from the OBRA list...? I'm sure
your alma mater does the same thing on a regular basis. Sounds like
fundraising to me.

Collegiate cycling in general can use all the support it can get - whether
it's UO, OSU, or any other team out there trying to figure out how to pay
for their next races.

Hey no need to bring UW into this. When I rode for UW it was precisely as
you described it. We paid for everything except the van the school lent us
(which did not fit everyone so we often too our own cars too). Talking with
some locals now I don't think it is much different, although maybe the guys
riding for them have more family money.

Dirt poor. I mean we are unable to buy things like pasta, sauce and salad on
trips for the team now we're that poor. We have 2 race weekends left in

Really?  You're team is dirt poor?

From the photos I've seen on Facebook, your team is rolling around in two brand
new kits for this year, why did you spend the money on two different kits?   And
I always see UO cycling alum and current students at races walking around in
nike warm ups, jackets, shirts, etc.  I also saw UO cycling sporting a nice new
trailer this year.  And you don't have enough money now... for food?

My advice, don't try to be like your athletic dept. and over spend.  And this
won't be an issue.  When I raced collegiate we paid for our own kits, paid for
our own meals, and paid our own way to nationals.

If you really need money, why not do a fundraiser rather then asking for money?
Get your sponsors to donate items and have an acution.  Heck, have a bake sale
on campus.  Offer tune ups on campus.  From what I've seen UO Cycling has the
most money in the NW Colliage cycling, save for maybe UW.

Good luck with getting to your events, but in my opinion you over spent and dug
yourself this hole.  It's a good life lesson.  Learn to budget!

Good news if you need a tax break! The UO Collegiate Cycling team is poor. Dirt
poor. I mean we are unable to buy things like pasta, sauce and salad on trips
for the team now we're that poor. We have 2 race weekends left in collegiate,
and will probably be only able to go to one if we don't fundraise.

Luckily for us, we have a SUPER easy way to donate to the team to help get us to
Regionals this year. And luckily for you, you get a code at the bottom that lets
you write it off as a donation to a non-profit!
