Spend This Memorial Day Weekend Racing through Beautiful Sisters, Oregon
Long known for its scenic road riding featuring breathtaking mountain views and jagged lava flows, Sisters Oregon now offers a budding trail system for cyclists who want to get up close with nature. Help celebrate this resource by joining avid local cyclists and their supporters for the Sisters Stampede, Sunday, May 29th.
Make your Memorial Day weekend a memorable one! The race begins just a few steps or pedal strokes from Three Creeks Brewing Company and the Five Pine Lodge and Conference Center in downtown Sisters. Glide over the beautiful Peterson Ridge Trail system in the Sisters Ranger district where the trails offer panoramic views of the Cascades and central Oregon. After the race, sip a pint of Three Creeks Brewing Company’s “Ridge Trail” ale and enjoy a free concert at the finish line by the True Blue band, while photos from the race are projected on the ceiling of the venue tent.
The second annual Sisters Stampede is stop number seven on this year’s OBRA XC mountain bike series and in the first year of the race, it brought nearly 400 racers to Sisters. The honorary champion’s belt buckles were handed out to Canadian native Chris Sheppard, and Tina Brubaker.
GRASSROOT BEGINNINGS:
In 2009, a small group of avid cyclists came together with the helping hand of some key sponsors to form a small racing club, “Green Ridge Physical Therapy/ In Focus Eye Care,” in small-town Sisters, Oregon. One of the goals of the group was to host a mountain bike race around the area’s budding trail system. As this new network of trails for bicycles and hikers becomes established, the group wants to share this beautiful resource with others. The Sisters Stampede will bring awareness to people outside of Sisters, help maintain trail conditions, and create a new base for the local team.
Major sponsors of the event include Three Creeks Brewing Company and the Five Pine Lodge and Conference Center. Others include, Green Ridge Physical Therapy, In Focus Eye Care, Eurosports, Century Link, The Sisters Athletic Club, 92.9 FM, Play Outdoors, Benders Ink, Ray’s Food Place, Sisters Coffee Company, and Lewin Designs.
