Holy rubber spikes in a lifesize carnival fun house garbage compactor Batman!
Could have fooled me! First time I saw my front wheel slip between them I almost
had a mild heart attack! Passed by them again Sunday but was ready for them!
Thanks for the info! I might come by with a carpet knife and perform a little "surgery"
unless of course we should treat other cyclists to a harmless scare! :)

I too have notices these "death spikes"...if they are the same one you speak of...One day last winter, I finally stopped to check them to see if I should bring a hammer and maybe pound them into the pavement on my next trip....
But alas! They only look like metal and are actually rubber! I have no idea what purpose they serve, but they sure throw you off when you near miss them...

For anyone who rides NE Marine Drive there is a serious road hazard on the shoulder of the Westbound lane.
Traveling West and about 1/4 mile from 33rd Ave there are two pointy metal spikes sticking out of the pavement.
They are about 1-1.5 inches in length and would do serious damage to a tire and/or wheel leading to a possible crash.
They occur as you pass one of those marine supply stores on your right. Someone from the road department tried to
let someone know by encircling the two nasty spikes with blue spray paint. There are also a few arrows pointing towards
the hazard in the same blue spray paint as you approach. Do be careful as I know many people, including myself, use
Marine drive to train and commute.
