I'd send this back and ask if "any type of wage, compensation or profit
benefits" includes token prizes where the expenses are far more than the
value of the token prizes.

Maybe if enough people ask -- and publicize the answers -- they will start
giving straighter answers.

participating in an organized sporting event where you are not receiving
