The Hawthorne Bridge could use some better signage. Since the "remodel"
it's a nice, wide, smooth surface that is a free-for-all. There is a set of
signs that show bikes/pedestrians having designated sides of the sidewalk,
but these only face one direction, so when you are approaching oncoming
pedestrians, you might think they know about this "plan," but they don't
have the set of signs at all!!
For a couple of years now I've been asking city and county to get a better
plan, and the closest I've gotten was the county road engineer saying, "I'm
begining to lean in your direction." This gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling,
but that has worn off in the months since he said that.

Hi There. This landed in my in box this morning and I figured there
would be a few in OBRA-land that would be interested. I was taken
with the assertion that cyclists "must" use the sidewalks on the
Morrison Bridge... I've never had any trouble riding the traffic
lanes on that bridge... and I ride sew-ups. Or maybe it's because I
ride sew-ups... Who knows.
Read the message, respond to the questionnaire, they need to hear from
riders.

Take the Morrison Bridge Pedestrian Survey
The Portland Office of Transportation and Multnomah County want to hear
from
you as we plan bicycle and pedestrian improvements on the Morrison
Bridge.
Please respond to our short survey any time day or night through

Currently bicyclists, disabled persons, and pedestrians crossing the
Morrison Bridge must share sidewalks that are only five feet wide. It is
difficult and uncomfortable to pass other users on the narrow sidewalk.
The
Morrison Bridge Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvements Project would install
permanent improvements to ease access across the bridge for bicyclists,
disabled persons, and pedestrians. Improvements across the Morrison
Bridge
and its east ramps are being studied. The project team will develop
alternatives and then analyze their safety and traffic implications. Top
alternatives will be presented for public comment.
We want to hear from as many people as possible before refining
alternatives. Please give us your opinion. And forward this email to
