Registration is now open for the 2011 High Desert Omnium presented by
Bendbroadband. This year's event takes place July 9-10 in Bend.
The HDO is a two-day, three stage bike race that includes a criterium, time
trial and road race. Unlike a stage race, however, finishing time is not
accumulated. Rather, riders accrue points toward the overall omnium based on
their stage finishes . You can choose to compete in one, two or all three
races.
The HDO is a stop on OBRA's Oregon Cup series and Category 4 Women's Series.
Here's the dope on how to preregister:
Online at www.obra.org (no later than noon, July 8)
Print out a mail-in entry form at www.highdesertomnium.com (must be received
July 5)
In-person from 4 to 6 p.m. on July 8 at Hutch's
Bicycles,
725 N.W. Columbia St., Bend.
Registration is also available day-of-race . Remember, only those who
register in advance receive a TT start time with their field. All race-day
sign ups get the next available time slot.
Go to the High Desert Omnium website for
information on prize money, course descriptions, race schedules and rider
categories (we have tandem!). You can also get the latest race updates on
our Facebook page.
In addition to being a well-run race where you are 99.9 percent GUARANTEED
to have fabulous -- or, gasp! -- hot weather, the High Desert Omnium is one
of the BEST values on the OBRA calendar: three races for $50. If that's not
enough to convince you, we're sponsored by Deschutes Brewery and American
Licorice so your chances of scoring beer and candy are high. 'Nuff said.
Bend is also HOPPING the second weekend of July -- live outdoor music
(Allison Krauss in concert at the LSA ),
kid-friendly festivals, quilts, river floating -- so bring your whole
family. Find out more at www.visitbend.com.
The High Desert Omnium is an entirely volunteer-run event hosted by the Bend
Bella Cyclists, a women's riding club in Bend. All proceeds netted from the
race go back into the race, into the club and are donated to local women's
related charities.
To volunteer (and our volunteers are WELL cared for), please contact Melanie

A shout-out to our generous sponsors, without which we wouldn't be putting
on a bike race. Please show them some love!
