Hello fellow OBRA racers,
For those of you who didn't receive the email I sent out yesterday, a quick heads-up that we are just two weeks away from the second edition of the Six Hours of Mount Hood (on Sunday July 3), a fun XC MTB relay/endurance race, where you will get to race - either as a two-person team or solo - multiple laps on a varied 7-mile loop at the Mt Hood Skibowl Mountain Resort.
The race flyer with all the details is posted at:
http://www.portlandracing.com/6hrs
Here are a couple other updates I'd like to pass along:
1) Pre-register online and save $10 off your race entry!
Per popular demand, we created the option to pre-register online at http://www.portlandracing.com/6hrs/online-registration.html
While we're close to the deadline to pre-register by mail, you still have until next Friday (June 24) to pre-register online.
Note: for logistical reasons, we have a 400-person race field limit, so pre-register today to secure your spot and enjoy $10 off the day-of-race fee!
2) Race Course and Course Map:
The race course will very similar to last year's course and features some of the best trails that Skibowl has to offer. It's a course that features about 400' of elevation gain per lap and some great singletrack sections under the trees. It has plenty of flow and will be fun to race for all levels of racers. The course map and more details about the course are posted at:
http://www.portlandracing.com/6hrs/course.html
Note: this year, the start/finish and food/aid station will be located at Skibowl's main lodge & parking lot, just off Hwy 26.
3) Race Support:
Throughout the race we'll have a fully stocked food station, featuring Hammer Heed energy drink, Larabar nutrition bars, fresh fruit, and PB&J sandwiches. Post-race, racers will also enjoy a free cup of chili and $1 beers (at least for those over 21), courtesy of our beer sponsor Hopworks Urban Brewing.
4) Pre-Riding, Lodging and Camping:
The course will be open for pre-riding on Saturday July 2, from 2pm to 6pm. If you come from further away, or like to make it a whole weekend on the mountain, the popular Collins Lake Resort (less than a mile from the start and the official lodging partner of Skibowl), has 150 chalets and 48 lodge condominiums at their Grand Lodge. There is also the option to car-camp on the Skibowl parking lot the night before the race for a nominal fee of $10 per car (includes access to bathrooms and presence of night guard). Another option is to camp at one of the various Forest Service campgrounds in the area, but since it's the Fourth of July Weekend, it might be hard to find available spots, unless you have made reservations.
5) Prizes & Raffle:
While there won't be any cash on the line, the top-3 podium finishers in each category will go home with some very classy custom medals. And in good tradition we'll wrap up the day with a raffle, featuring more than $1,200 in prizes, courtesy of our sponsors Sellwood Cycle Repair, Chris King Precision Components, Hopworks Urban Brewing, and Nossa Familia Coffee.
Based on last year's experience and all the positive feedback we received from racers, I'm sure this will be another fun one. Come out to race, to cheer on your friends, and to enjoy an Oregon summer day on the mountain... I'm looking forward to seeing you!
~Kris
