FW: Eugene OBRA Trailer Found

Why don't you contract a volunteer team of navy seals? From what I hear they are good tracking down things that go missing. I bet the guy who found the trailer was a secret navy seal in hiding. Someone needs to challenge him with a question involving trident gum!

SPOT- have one. Leaving it on would kill the battery.

Actually- Steve is right on. Talking with Rolf Prima to store it in a
secure location. Thanks Rolf!!

You are looking at this problem from the wrong angle.

Instead of trying to find out how to track the trailer if it gets stolen, try to find a safe place to store it.

Surely out of all the OBRA members out there, there is someplace that sucker can be stored safely??? No?

You may or may not have seen LoJack for trailers. The battery is self
contained. It is more expensive but has very good support.

Yo Matt-

Been looking into them. The issue is the power source. Thinking a
small solar panel that powers into a tracking device may work.

Chirp is an interesting concept but has a range of only 32 feet. :(

Has OBRA ever thought of using a GPS beacon? Garmin makes a cheap $23
product called "Chirp" that runs for a year on a single battery and
can give out its exact GPS coordinates to the owner.

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=74811

It wouldn't work for long-range finding (ideally, having a webpage on
the OBRA site with real-time coordinates of all OBRA trailers would be
handy for promoters as well as tracking thieves) since you have to be
nearby, but might be something to think about in the future.

All,

FYI...I found the Eugene OBRA trailer this afternoon. It was parked on
a side road about a mile from where it was stolen. The logos were
scraped off and spray painted over. And the license plate was missing.
The police were able to identify it as ours by the VIN.

Our padlock is on the tailgate, and the mandoor was locked. The lockbox
was missing, so we don't know if the theives were able to get in or not
yet. Sal has the keys, and is out of town until tomorrow.

It feels full, but, since we don't have a key, we were not able to get
in to check the contents. It could be our stuff. Or the theives could
be using it to store other stolen property.

FYI...I found the Eugene OBRA trailer this afternoon. It was parked on a side road about a mile from where it was stolen. The logos were scraped off and spray painted over. And the license plate was missing. The police were able to identify it as ours by the VIN.

Our padlock is on the tailgate, and the mandoor was locked. The lockbox was missing, so we don't know if the theives were able to get in or not yet. Sal has the keys, and is out of town until tomorrow.

It feels full, but, since we don't have a key, we were not able to get in to check the contents. It could be our stuff. Or the theives could be using it to store other stolen property.

Ron
