Agreed, getting the right fit and the right saddle will make things OK. For
some people, finding the right saddle is easy and some it's more
challenging. But once the bike fit is correct and the right saddle is
matched to the right person, these issues should go away.

I'll add my two cents. Make sure the seat fits your pelvic structure. When I started racing years ago, I went through four saddles before I found what works for me. I thereupon bought three "backups" in case they quit making the model that fits.( Which they have. )

As a bike fitter I hear a common complaint about numbness. The rider no
longer has that complaint after a proper fit; saddle too high, too low,
improper set back, saddle nose up/wrong angle down. So far in the hundreds
of fits I've done genital numbness isn't an issue after the fit.

I respectfully disagree that this is fear mongering from the NYT.

Upon reengaging with cycling about five years ago, I was experiencing
numbness after long rides. After buying an ISM seat, numbness is not a
concern.

Though I get some grief for my, "silly seat" from fellow riders, I'm very
glad to be riding on it and being kind to my body.

Thank you,

Fergus
