I'm happy to do any frame repair work that I can get,

but rivnut bottle mounts done properly wouldn't harm a

steel frame tube. Aluminum bikes almost all use them,

and aluminum is much more likely to develop a crack

from the drilling than steel is. Bontrager used to

use rivnuts instead of brazed in mounts on Race Lite

frames, they thought the midsection of the tube they

were using was too thin to braze. I see brazed bottle

mounts in Ultrafoco tubes so that probably isn't a

problem with more recent tube sets.

have a frame with a

mangled Rivnut which needs to be replaced.

Zefal makes a plastic mounting system that will nor mar paint like the old

metal brackets, but works just as well. I've used them for several years on

an old track bike I commute on and a Tommasini road bike built with only one

mount. I bought a set for another bike from River City a couple of months ago.

My frame has only one bottle cage now and I've been told that this is a simple process of drilling a hole and "pop-riveting" the mounts into the these holes? Can anyone in OBRA land recommend someone/some shop who can modify my older steel frame to add a set of bottle cage eyelets/bolts to the seat tube?
