infant child transport

hey fred,

i just did a bike-camping trip out to Stub Stewart State Park with my 3.5 month old bow in the trailer. I just set his car seat (with mounting bracket still attached) into the trailer and then tied it down with a bunch of used inner tubes. It was very secure. I even flipped the trailer with him in it and it was fine (darn bollards on NW Springville Road!).

here's a photo of the set up

I think Burley makes a child sling inside so they "float" in it. I
talked to our pediatrician about it at 6months and she said that the one
year mark that everyone recommends is to be safe and it is at whatever
point they can reliably hold their head up and sit up.

So take that for what it's worth, I asked mine just to give myself the
piece of mind.

there is no law on the subject that I am aware of.

Many people use car seat put into a bike trailer.

I used a bike trailer with a pile of blankets on each side of my kids to keep them from flopping over.

Deo volente, it worked for both kids of mine so far.

Hi Obra,

Does anyone know if there are any legal and/or viable methods to transporting a 3-4 month old baby by bike? Trailer w/ infant insert? Attaching an infant carseat inside a trailer? bike-mounted hardshell seats accomodating infants?

Please keep in mind I'm only asking a question at this point and haven't made any neglectful or irresponsible decisions requiring a list-serv beat-down.

thanks,

Hi Obra,

Does anyone know if there are any legal and/or viable methods to
transporting a 3-4 month old baby by bike? Trailer w/ infant insert?
Attaching an infant carseat inside a trailer? bike-mounted hardshell seats
accomodating infants?

Please keep in mind I'm only asking a question at this point and haven't
made any neglectful or irresponsible decisions requiring a list-serv
beat-down.

thanks,
