The hacking theory has been resolved and is inaccurate. There is no conflict present or need for anyone to worry or post about this issue again.

General rule of thumb when it comes to 'hacked' or misappropriated
accounts:
1 - Does the message seem odd or out of place?
2 - Does the content seem consistent with the normal interactions you
(the 3rd-party reference) have had with the sender?
As far as the message that started this fiasco, it certainly sounds out
of place based on my interactions with and conversations with John. I
certainly
wouldnt rule out a bogus email as being sent (but one never knows).
I know Ron/Dorothy have had odd email sent from their account (Comcast
is
legendary for their email/account insecurity) as well as other members
who
have had their accounts hijacked in order to send spam messages. There
have
also been several 'users' who have somehow gained access to the OBRA
Chat
and blatantly spewed spam to the list. These users were never members
of
OBRA and were likely using an injection form of attack to find new
victims.
My proposal for dealing with this would be to arm a message with a
tactical
nuke and return it to the 'person' who sent the message. The collateral
damage
would be widespread, but it would take out a huge number of compromised
servers
and possibly the spammers/scammers themselves. :^)
