Dirt riders,
The clean-up and trail work on July 27 was a huge success thanks to over 30 volunteers! Check out the NWTA website to see the “official” post about the 3+ hours of work and what was accomplished! The warm beer tasted good afterward as well!
You know who you are, but I want to thank the OBRA members that managed to make it out to help. Not only did we remove LOTS of trash from the system, but we managed to open up / clear all the trail that was destroyed by the clear-cut on the South side of RP road. The DH folks again have a complete line from up high all the way down to Hwy 30. They have to do a little grunting in a couple of places, but they did before the cut. This also opened the connection to the existing XC trails on that side. There is still some debris (a clear-cut creates a massive amount of “thick” debris) that will need to be ridden in, but all we have to do is “abide” (as the Dude does) by the rules and we can show them we are good stewards....compared to the people who dump trash, rip up the area with motorcycles etc. We are sweethearts!
I would expect fire danger closures if the summer stays dry and there may be spraying closures at some point. My guess is they will start replanting when the wet season arrives......after mid October (another closure). Just please stay out if they post “no entry”. I will cross post when there is another chance to help out at the area or other stuff comes up.
I think (if we get approval) we might try working for a couple of hours on a weekend, then ride! For now...if you can get out and enjoy the area do so. It is in great shape and good for people learning to ride some rooty technical areas when not wet!
As I have mentioned in previous posts, each person does what they can to help us have trails to ride. NWTA and other advocacy organizations in the NW know that people do what they can. Support your local group! Of course that includes OBRA!
