Subject: [SBW-Forum] Day One Worlds
Today was the start of the Cycing World Championships from Zolder,
Belgium.
As normal the day started overcast and really cold. The Junior Women
were
the first to ride today for there Time Trail World Chmpionship. As the
women
warmed up you could tell that there might be a new World Champ today.
All
the women were looking deep into them selfs today to get the best out of
them selfs. They still had time to smile for the camara when they cought
sight of the camara as they warmed up.
Magdalena Zamolska from Poland was the first off today as it was still
very
cold out but looked as the sun would come out soon. The fans yelled as
the
World Championships begain.
I was asked if I would like to ride in the team car for US rider Lassyn
Staley. Danny VanHaute was going to drive and Danny Debuck was the
mechanic
on board. Danny was out the window telling Lassyn to pick it up when she
need it to and that she was doing well also. At one point Lassyn was
catching the women that started before her and Danny was out the window
again yelling for Lassyn to get by her.
Lassyn at one point was in 3rd spot on time at the 7.6Km and looking
good.
She ended up with the 7th best time at the 7.6 Km point at 10:42.32 and
was
+10.11 sec. back Her finish time was a time of 16:14.19 at +19.98 back
and a
avrage speed of 41.388 Km/h for a strong finish at 6th overall.
The other American was Magen Long who raced the worlds last year and
placed
30th im told. Magen seemed cool and collected as she warmed up and had
time
to kidd the team guys about locking her in the van as she changed and
had to
pound the inside of the van to be let out. Finely Danny let her out,
calling
her his little princess. She is anything but a princess on the bike she
got
off to a bad start but by the 7.6 Km mark she was the 14th fastest lady
out
there at a time of 11:03.65 at +32.13 back. By the finish she was in
12th
spot at 16:45.81 at +51.60 back and her avrage speed was 40.087 Km/h.
She did alot better then she did the year before and with Lassyn and
Magen
leading the way, in time the US Women will be on the top.
Italy won the GOLD in the Junior womens Time Trial with Anna Zugno
taking
the win in a time of 15:54.21 at a speed of 42.255 Km/h.

the bronze with Claudia Hecht at 7.21 back.

TIme trial for the Men Under 23 went like this. I was trying to get back
to
the start to shoot but with the city all blocked up I got there almost
40
mins into them going off. I did get to shoot and see US rider Michael
Creed
go off on his Fix gear bike. It was very strange to see a fix gear time
trail bike but he says it works for him. It seemed to not be that bad as
he
was 23rd at te 17.050 Km in a time of 21:34.84 +1.21.73 back and was
