A few points that I noticed at the recent Criteriums.
The PIT is there for the free lap rule. This rule states that if a rider has
a mishap crash or a breakage of an essential part) then they are entitled
for up to two free laps per occurrence. You can only get these free laps if
you report to the pit.
Loosening of equipment or being caught behind a crash do not warrant a free
lap. So hitting a pothole and having your handlebars or seat come loose does
not warrant a free lap. A pit official will inspect the equipment and make a
determination on the validity. Coming in to the pit with a soft tire, is a
tricky one. We will put the wheel aside and check it throughout the race. If
it holds full pressure the free lap may not be given.
If you crash within the period that the free lap rule expire, you cannot get
up, rejoin the race, sprint for the finish and be considered on the same lap
as the rest of the riders.
Do we need any discussion on this?
