Hello, OBRA racers!

For those of you who did not receive the email I sent out earlier this week, here are some updates about the upcoming Kruger's Kermesse Farm Crit, which will take place at Kruger's Farm (on beautiful Sauvie Island) on Sunday August 28, just over a week from now!

With the help of our presenting sponsor Bike N Hike, we bring back this popular race, which features a very unique race format in an equally unique setting. Last Monday, I rode over to the farm to scout the course and everything looked in great shape. Like in years past, the course will include a great mix of fast, hard-packed farm roads, some grasssy sections and some sprinkles of gravel. Everything will be 100% rideable and, unlike cyclocross, there won't be any barriers or obstacles where you have to dismount. In a nutshell: the course will be ton of fun, both for novice racers and for seasoned pros (and everyone in between).

Some other important updates I like to pass on:

1) Pre-register online now and save time on race day!
Until next Wednesday (Aug 26), you can pre-register online at http://www.portlandracing.com/kermesse/online-registration.html. We'll have an "express lane" at registration for pre-registered riders. All you have to do is pick up your bib number and you're all ready to race.

2) Bib Numbers:
We will use special bib numbers, which you will receive at registration. So please leave your road bib #s at home. Also, make sure to budget enough time before your race to get through registration and pick up your bib number at the OBRA tent. Like in cross, your bib number will go on the left side.

3) Return of the Kruger's Farm Team Relay!
After all the fun we had at the Ultra Short Track Team Relay (and the team relay we did at the 2008 Kruger's Kermesse), we decided to bring back the madness and wrap up the day of racing with a fun and exciting 30' relay race on a super-compact farm crit course (approx. 3-minute laps), featuring up to 25 teams of 4 to 10 racers. The entrance fee is $10/team. For more details and to sign up your team, just send me an email at kris@portlandracing.com.

4) Kiddie races, live music, gourmet food, beer garden
Like in years past, we will have a host of off-course activities that make this event very spectator and family friendly. As usual, we'll organize a FREE, fun kiddie race for the little ones. Kruger's Farm Market and their various concession stands will be catering hot food and serving beer and other beverages. And we'll have a great band playing live music from 1 to 3pm.

5) Sponsors:
Bike N Hike, Hopworks Urban Brewing, Kruger's Farm Market, Hammer Nutrition, Chris King, and Nossa Familia Coffee have all stepped up to support this event with great raffle prizes and goodies! Thank you sponsors!

6) Volunteers Wanted!
We still need volunteers to help with registration, lap counting, course marshaling, and tear down. If you are interested in volunteering - and get to race for free! - just reply to this e-mail with the dates and times that you are available. Volunteering is a lot of fun and it is a great way to help us making it all happen.

Like in years past, this event will be the perfect segway into the upcoming cyclocross season. Bring your friends. Bring your family. See you at the farm!
