NEWS
Free Club/Group Month at the Home Depot Center Velodrome
[email from USA Cycling ]
To demonstrate our commitment to the Southern California cycling community, The Home Depot Center Velodrome (HDC) is pleased to announce that we will be offering free instructed sessions every weekend for the entire month of September.
Presented by CalBikeLaw.com, the program will feature four sessions each day with each session lasting two and one-half hours. No previous track experience is necessary. Bikes will be provided free of charge for the session. Water, water bottles and light snacks will be provided by CalBikeLaw.com. Riders must bring a helmet. Pedals, cycling shoes, and cycling appropriate attire are recommended.
This is the first of many new developments* that will be taking place at The Home Depot Center Velodrome over the next several months. Users of the velodrome can expect increased access to the track and additional programming for racers, casual riders and fitness enthusiasts.
This event is a fantastic opportunity for your club or group to get expert instruction at no cost and introduce your members to the excitement of riding on America's best velodrome. Please address all inquiries to Adam Duvendeck, Event Center Manager, at aduvendeck@homedepotcenter.com or 310-630-2064.
To assist the velodrome staff with programming, please try to organize your group into 15-30 riders. Times will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis. If you have a small group, you may be combined with other small groups to increase participation numbers.
*The HDC Velodrome would like to remind local clubs that as part of our development towards creating new, exciting programming, during the USA Cycling Elite Track National Championships we will hold two spectator evenings. The evening sessions on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 will feature event finals, food/beverage and beer concessions, entertainment events and a fitness expo. If your club is interested in attending please contact the Event Center Manager for more information on special USAC Club tickets.
**This month of free group sessions is made possible by CalBikeLaw.com, the Torrance law firm of AgnewBrusavich, whose attorneys have represented injured cyclist throughout southern California for over 38 years. Please visit their website for information about their services.

KEEP YOUR RACE SCHEDULE FILLED IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO UPGRADE
All track upgrades are processed and approved by USA Cycling and the SCNCA
with recommendations from velodrome managers using the following criteria:

Track Categorization Guidelines - Upgrades
Rider upgrades are handled electronically. You can request an upgrade online through your USAC account. The request will be sent to the person responsible for your area and/or category. You will need to follow the instructions online and provide the information about your race experience and placings. The information you provide must include the race date, name, type of event, category, number of participants, and placing. If the administrator approves the upgrade, your account will be changed so that when you request a new license, the category will be changed. For road, track, and cyclocross category changes, local Association representatives will also provide stickers for your license if you are not requesting a new one. Note that road, track, and cyclocross category 1 and mountain bike Semi-Pro and Pro upgrades require a license reissue. A mountain bike Pro license must be an international license.

All track upgrades and downgrades are made through the local association.
Please DO NOT send your license. Contact your Regional Coordinator via phone or email with questions or circumstances not addressed in the rulebook.
Track Upgrades
Track upgrades and downgrades are made through the Local Associations and Regional Coordinators. Only results from a USA Cycling permitted event may be considered for an upgrade. All track upgrades are processed using the following criteria:
Cat. 5 to Cat. 4 Complete a Velodrome Class or 4 race days.
Cat. 4 to Cat. 3 5 race days and 20 points
Cat. 3 to Cat. 2 5 race days and 25 points
Cat. 2 to Cat. 1 5 race days and 30 points
Points:
National championships, Category A, B, or C track race will be 7, 5,3,2,1 for each event.
For all other events, upgrade points are 5,3,2,1 and are based on an omnium of the event’s races.
Attendance at a USA Cycling Development Camp will count as one qualifying race for category 5 to 4 upgrade. It will also count as 4 upgrade points for a category 4 to 3 upgrade and 3 upgrade points for a category 3 to 2 upgrade.
Additional Considerations:
1. Ten person field minimum for category 3-5 and 20 person field minimum for upgrade to category 1.
SUPPORT LOCAL TRACK RACING - BRING A FRIEND (OR TWO)
2. Fifty percent of Upgrading points and number of times raced will be carried over to the next year.
Points do not carry over to the next category.
3. When upgrading to a Cat. 1, points earned need to be from more than one velodrome.
4. A race day is defined as one full day of racing. A race day can include a number of events such as a
kilometer, sprints or time trial, but it only counts as one race day.
5. Women and Juniors earn one point for every five race days when upgrading from Cat. 4 through Cat.2.
6. Races exempt from upgrading are Youth races and races of more than two categories (i.e.: “A” and “B” races).
With the approval of USA Cycling, riders who are Pro or category 1 on the road may be upgraded to category 2 on the track and riders who are category 2 on the road may be upgraded to category 3 on the track without first having to begin at category 5.
